Agent connection
The purpose of the agent
Once you log in to your account, you will be prompted to download, install, and connect the agent. The agent is a desktop app that runs in the background and makes it possible to launch browser profiles.
Connecting the agent
Connection via UI
Let’s go through the agent connection process together from the start.
- Download the agent for your OSIf you're using a Mac, make sure you have macOS 12 (Monterey) or a newer OS version.
- Click the downloaded file to open the installer
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation
- Click “Launch agent” and wait while Multilogin downloads all components and establishes the connection (wait time can be longer with slower connection speeds)
Manual connection
Once installed, the agent launches automatically. If needed, you can also launch it by visiting this link in a browser: mlx://start?port=45000. Here's the location of the executable file:
OS | File name | File location | Command |
Windows | agent.exe | C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Multilogin X |
|
macOS | mlx.app | The "Applications" folder |
|
Linux | mlx | The Applications list |

Agent connection issue
An agent connection error came up? Not to worry: this can happen if your antivirus or firewall rules are too strict.
The agent has undergone a rigorous certification process and is verified as safe and trustworthy. Nevertheless, antivirus or firewall software can sometimes have false positive results, flagging legitimate applications as potential threats. We can assure you that our agent is not malicious in any way, and we are committed to maintaining a safe and secure experience for our users.
To resolve the issue, try to disable your antivirus and/or firewall and repeat the steps above. Later, you can whitelist the agent in those apps. If the issue is still there, contact support, and we will figure it out together.
